Welcome!

Could you benefit from a place to take some time-out?
... to explore your thoughts and feelings
... to understanding and changing unhelpful behaviours

I am a counsellor working within easy reach of Cardiff. My practice is at my home in Penarth, which is easy to reach on public transport or parking is available. If you have mobility or transport difficulties, or feel uncomfortable when not at home, you may want to consider a home visit.

I have a doctorate in psychology, which I use to inform practise. I work integratively, which means I use a combination of types of counselling depending on your needs and what you want to gain from therapy. I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I am empathic and warm and love helping people.

I work with individual adults of all ages on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to understand your world better and to live your life more fully.

I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with :

  • Stress
  • Relationships
  • Panic Attacks
  • Anxiety: health anxiety, social anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder
  • Obsessional Compulsive Disorder
  • Bereavement
  • Redundancy
  • Binge Eating
  • Depression
  • Addiction.

  • Maybe you have clicked on this page as you are looking for someone to talk to who will not judge them. I worked for the Samaritans for nearly 10 years and learned that loneliness can be a problem for people of all ages. Or maybe you feel sad and disillusioned with life, especially when milestones in age are reached but goals are not, or you are experiencing relationship difficulties. Maybe you have been bereaved and have a need to talk about your loved one with someone who did not know them. People don't want to share confidences with family members or friends for various reasons such as not wanting to worry them. This is where the counsellor-client relationship can really help. I am here to listen to you without judgement. I am here to validate your experiences and you ... but also to help you gain perspective and acceptance.

Sometimes people have been managing a particular problem for years, such as feeling panic or having obsessional thoughts. This is where cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can really help. Using psychology, we can explore how these disorders or problems develop. Using CBT we can understand how these problems are being currently being maintained so that we can break this pattern so you can live more fully.

Although I am based in Penarth, I cover Cardiff, Cowbridge, Barry, Dinas Powys as well as the smaller villages in the Vale of Glamorgan. If you'd prefer me to travel to your home to see you, this can usually be mutually agreed.
